I’m finally able to announce that The Scorpion’s Mate ebook is now available on Amazon! Phew! It feels like it’s been a looooong haul to get this book finished and published, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

And in addition, I’ve added the bonus of a second full-length alien romance, because I really wanted to share it with my readers.

The Scorpions Mate eBook cover - Resized

Here’s a description of both books:

The Scorpion’s Mate (Book 1: Iriduan Test Subjects)

Claire has never really fit in with everyone around her, but she’s carved out a life for herself using her own unique style and artistic ability to support herself on the Internet. The last thing she expects is to be abducted by aliens and dropped into a research facility, where a genetically-engineered alien soldier chooses her as his life-mate.

Thrax’s pheromones are compelling, and his status as a fellow unwilling test subject makes them allies, but Claire isn’t certain she can trust someone who is convinced she belongs to him, when all she wants to do is find a way to return home to Earth—a place that her devoted alien can never follow, because there’s no way the scorpion-like alien would ever be able to pass for human.

Still, she’ll accept help where she can find it, so she doesn’t hesitate to escape with Thrax from the facility, though their time running from their pursuers in the warrens beneath the research facility will forever change Claire, and could make it impossible for her to return to Earth.

But will there be anywhere else in the galaxy they can go where their love will be accepted?

Plus a BONUS Full-length novel:

Into the Dead Fall

Though she was raised by a survivalist, Alice was not prepared to be ripped from her dimension and dropped without ceremony into the massive junkyard of a parallel dimension.

She’s wounded, alone, and lost in a world her mind struggles to comprehend. When a strange, four-armed alien comes to her aid, saving her life, she has no choice but to accept his help.

She finally starts growing comfortable around her leonine companion, until another warrior intervenes to save her when creatures from the Dead Fall attack them during their exploration, making everything much more complicated.

Alice still doesn’t understand what either of the warriors is saying, and if she can’t find the right words to soothe her beastly new protectors, they’ll end up killing each other.

Author’s Note: 18+  These books contain scenes that are not suitable for younger audiences. It should also be noted that the alien heroes in these books look alien in many ways, and their cultures and mating habits might not be for everyone.

I’m also excited with how the cover turned out. For anyone who reads the book, you might understand why it was impossible to accurately depict the hero on the cover using stock images, so I had to get creative. I’m thrilled with what the designer came up with! Claire may be trapped in a research facility, but she’s also walking on stars. I love the imagery, and the way it perfectly symbolizes her situation after being abducted.

This book (actually two books) is only .99 cents! It’s also available on Kindle Unlimited. I hope you’ll check it out.

  1. Sorry, Susan, but this is BEYOND wow! I know you’ve been hesitant to put this book out, but there are already many of us who are so glad that you did. You can read what I thought of it in my review on Amazon (as CLS-LRS). But I also wanted to share some of the reactions I’m seeing after posting the news of your book’s release on the Facebook Group Pages for Amanda Milo and Stacy Jones.

“I heard about this one and SO wanted to read it. The scorpion alien! YESSSSS!”
“I liked it, unique and engaging”
“Runs to ‘zon so fast she nearly trips over….”
“I LOVED IT. And the book in the back. Going to read more now, thanks for the recommendation.”
    “This was GREAT”

I know how difficult it is to write reviews and I doubt many of the readers will take the time to do it, so I wanted you to read what is being said. As for me, while I truly enjoy your Shadows in Sanctuary books, The Scorpion’s Mate is something VERY special. The 2nd book was also a very yummy treat, but I’ve always loved stories which gift the heroine with more than one mate. Any woman, who can not only survive but thrive after being torn away from Earth (however it happened) DESERVES more than one amazing male!

    1. Wow! I don’t even know what to say to this comment other than thank you so much!!! I really appreciate that you’ve read it, taken the time to write a review and even went to the trouble of updating me on feedback from others. You’ve been amazingly supportive, especially about this book, and I’m so glad it lived up to your hopes for it! It’s readers like you that encourage me to keep sharing my work!

  2. You are so very welcome. And I’d like to put a thought here that you can take or leave. But it’s certainly suggested with the best of intentions.

I am not a “Facebook” person, I never put anything on my FB page but I do post and comment on both of the FB Groups I mentioned. I cannot imagine trying to keep up with a Group page …. but I will say that there are plenty of independent authors who post and comment on both of these Group Pages. Amanda and Stacy have both been extremely supportive of any authors who wish to post about their books, because all of us are constantly looking for good, alien romance reads. The more alien, the better, on both of these Groups. I have already recommended your Shadows in Sanctuary books, The Princess Dragon, and now your newest on both Group sites.

Of course, both Groups (Amanda Milo’s Minions and Stacy Jones’s Chosen) are closed/not public, but it takes about a day to be welcomed onto the Group – if you ever wanted to consider joining – and it might be a way for you to become more known without the hassle of trying to maintain your own site.

Just something to consider; I simply feel that your books do not get all of the credit they so richly deserve. Thanks for doing what you do!

    1. Thank you for your advice, Cindy (and your amazing review, which I rushed to read right after replying to your last comment). I did follow some other authors (because I love the genre!) and I think I follow Amanda Milo, but I will definitely check out the group! I’m always looking for new alien romance myself (bet you didn’t know that 😉)
Speaking of Stacy, I just finished her book, Chosen, today on my road trip, and I loved it! I didn’t have a problem with the submissiveness of the heroes because it seemed more a part of their culture than their personalities, and Frarr even struggled with it, which I loved! Plus, they were all different, so I felt like the multiple partner angle was well done. I only wish I had seen the pictures at the end before I read it, because I struggled with picturing their faces. I have to agree with you. She did a great job. I’ll be looking forward to her next book.

  3. I don’t think Tribe can come out soon enough for any of us – Stacy says, “Spring”. I am so glad you liked her book, as you and I discussed it through the Forum and I did feel that you would enjoy it. Frarr was my favorite as he did struggle so when he felt he was pushing the boundaries of what would be acceptable to his Pasha. And when he considered sacrificing himself on the run to the mountains … just NO!! I bet you’d also enjoy several of the 9 Valos of Sonhadra books.

    1. I do think Frarr was probably my favorite, but it was hard to choose. I really liked the gentle giant, Arrukh, so it was a bit of a toss-up. Yeah, I would have been devastated if she killed off Frarr. I was so sad about Seti and her poor little babies. 😢
I saw the list of Sonhadra books and will be checking them out for sure! I’ve finally got a bit of free time now that my books are out, so I will be hitting that TBR list pretty hard 😁

  4. As a quick follow-up, wanted to tell you that, earlier this morning, someone else in Amanda Milo’s Minions FB Group re-posted a link to The Scorpion’s Mate. She obviously hadn’t seen my earlier post (which is cool that folks are finding your book on their own!) and stated how well the story fits the type of book the Group looks for. Her post already has four very positive comments, including one person who stated “Just read that and wowie! I then went and bought all her books.”

It made me happy and I wanted to share it with you 🙂

    1. Cindy, thank you for sharing this amazing news! I’m on a family vacation so I didn’t bring my laptop (I’m not allowed to work on books when I’m supposed to be spending time with family 😞). I’m also not on Facebook during vacation, so I haven’t had a chance to send the request to join either group yet, but I’m still checking emails, and your comments are really making my day!

Given the buzz that these books have experienced, I’m considering adjusting my writing schedule to work on their sequels before I continue with my other projects. I’ve already figured out the characters, concepts, and primary storylines for both sequels. I just wasn’t sure when I’d get to working on them and was going to wait and see about how well the first books in the series did to decide.
I’m sure(ish) that I’ll have some idea about what I’m going to do by the time I get home, and I will be posting a blog about my decision (whether I decide to change my book release schedule).

This kind of feedback really helps me determine where I should focus, so again, I really appreciate you sharing it with me.

  5. I know you’re on vacation … and I’m afraid you’ll get tired of comments from me that basically state the same thing ….. but the comments to the post on Amanda’s FB Group just keep coming. I wish you could see them because I’m excited and it’s not my book!

e.g. A woman who stated she grabbed it on KU, read two chapters and bought it. Tiffany Roberts (if you’re familiar with the sci-if/alien romance books she and her husband write as a team) is reading it. And I’m being asked about your other books, so I’m shamelessly giving plugs for Shadows in Sanctuary. (I’m getting such a kick out of this!)

    1. I don’t think I could ever get tired of these comments! I love that you’ve been sharing them with me! I fully intend to see them for myself by joining these groups when I can get back to my laptop.

I just recently finished Treasure of the Abyss and loved it, so I am stoked that Tiffany Roberts is reading my book. I wonder what they think of Nemon? I suspect we got our inspiration from the same aquatic creature 😁.

It is killing me to be banned from writing until after vacation! I’m scribbling notes all day long in my journal, on napkins, in the margins of travel brochures… sigh. Fortunately, my family is patient. They recognize what’s going on when my eyes get distant and I trail off mid-sentence. 😄 They can’t see the little light bulb above my head, but they know it’s there.
