One of these days, I’m going to get back to blogging, but lately, I’ve been so caught up with working on my WIPs that I just don’t have the time to write a long post, so must confine myself to quick updates to let you all know that I’m still here.
Hi! *waves* I’m still here. 😀
So, I’ve been busy, busy, busy on the second revision of Key to the Dead Fall. This story is crazy complex! The world of the Dead Fall is an inter-dimensional junkyard of sorts where items and oftentimes people fall into the Dead Fall from a trans-dimensional portal above it called the Nexus.
This world leaves me with infinite possibilities when it comes to setting and characters and I can really let my imagination run wild, which has allowed me to create some characters I cannot wait to share. There is an almost surreal quality to this post-apocalyptic environment because there are so many possibilities and variations due to the multi-dimensional nature of the Dead Fall. Still, the characters are very down to Earth in some ways, and bring life (and love!) to this bleak landscape.
At 114,000 words, the manuscript is longer than my usual romances, although this early in the editing process, that could change. I’ve already cut about 30,000 words during revision.
I won’t be sharing excerpts until the story is further along in development because things can change, and for the same reason, I won’t share a more detailed description or blurb yet, but believe me, I want to! I’m so excited and eager to share this story!
It’s different from what I’ve read in my genre (and I read a lot of alien romance!) so I hope that in this case, different is good. It’s always a balancing act to bring something new to the genre without going too far in the “weird” direction that you drive readers away. I think I’ve managed that balance with this one, but we’ll see after I get some different eyes on it, and get the editing done.
Now, it’s time for me to take a little vacation from writing to rest my weary brain-box, but as soon as I feel refreshed, I will be back at the keyboard again, eagerly working on my next WIP. Oh, yeah, I know I’ve mentioned that I would be working on Uriale’s Redemption next, and for anyone who is waiting on that, I have to give you an apology. Right now, The Serpent’s Mate is calling my name the loudest, demanding to be the next one up in my queue. After The Kraken’s Mate left me incredibly inspired, I had a ton of notes and a full outline for The Serpent’s Mate, and I really need to work on it while it is fresh in my mind. Sometimes, this happens where I have plans, but they get derailed by inspiration taking me in a different direction.
I know it can get frustrating for readers when an author jumps from one series to another, and I apologize for that, but I want to bring you the best stories I can, and I feel like in order to do that, I must follow that inspiration bunny down the rabbit hole it chooses. Thank you all for your support, feedback, and patience. I will continue to keep everyone updated as things change, and Key to the Dead Fall gets closer to release.
In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out the first book, Into the Dead Fall, it’s available for $0.99 on Amazon, or read for free with KU. It’s part of the two book set, which also contains The Scorpion’s Mate. Though the two books may not seem connected, you will see in Key to the Dead Fall that they are, though only tangentially.
